Pesuvathu Peya?

Horror Comedy | Duration : 2 Hrs 15 mins

The Idea and the Journey

The Start

Oruvanukku Oruthi, our first short film was shot in a single location with just two characters, having a heartfelt conversation with each other. I decided not to repeat the pattern in my next film and wanted it to have a much bigger cinematic feel. Despite the limited budget we decided to shoot “Un Aasai Mugam” in challenging landscapes of the city with no control over the crowds. We as a team successfully executed the vision with Un Aasai Mugam, a gentle love story set in the southern suburbs of Chennai.

The Idea

For my next, I was looking for a story that was in stark contrast with my previous ones. During Lockdown, as we were discussing and scaring each other with ghost stories over a conference call, the idea to write a horror script originated and named it Pesuvathu Peya inspired by the song Pesuvathu Kiliya. Around the same time I had finished writing another feature script “Kozhaigal”, an action comedy. I thoroughly enjoyed writing comedy and decided the Horror elements will work better with comedy in Pesuvathu Peya.

Thus the script of “Pesuvathu Peya” came into existence and we started making parts of the film with friends. Due to “Un Aasai Mugan” taking more of our effort, time and resources we had to pause it momentarily. I extended and improved the script of Pesuvathu Peya every time I had a chance, by saying it to my team and friends and made multiple revisions over the years with the feedback I received. With it’s unique treatment and solid laughs, we are now confident it’ll perform better with the audience as a mainstream commercial theatrical film.
